Jose Miguel Arroyo, husband of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, and his alleged cronies were accused to have maintained over a dozen bank accounts to stash funds allegedly from corruption and money laundering. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, already under pressure over allegations that she rigged last year's election, said that her corruption-tainted husband will leave the country to protect her credibility.

A disqualified candidate from last years presidential elections, Ely Lao Pamatong, handcuffs himself to the gate of the Philippine Congress in Quezon City. Pamatong urged President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to resign after a televised statement late on Monday where Arroyo said she spoke to an election official and was sorry, but denied she had tried to influence the election result.
